System design brief
The local council of Hilversum required a holistic fully integrated green SuDS solution, that harvested and buffered rainwater and runoff, before infiltrating all site water within the confines of the site.
The Hydrorock Natural Aquifer SuDS System
Landgoed Monnikenburg, is a new development on the outskirts of Hilversum, the architects took the theme of ‘landscape living’ as the starting point. Built in wood and heathland and designed to the highest green standards, this new development is not connected to the sewerage system. As a result, all rainwater enters the soil directly; precisely where it belongs!
Simple and effective disconnection from the sewage system has been achieved using the Hydrorock Natural Aquifer SuDS System. These blocks have built-in perforated tubes that speed the collection of rainwater. The Aquifer Blocks ensure a gradual infiltration into the surrounding soil. Millions of litres of clean rainwater will ensure a stable soil and a better condition for the growth and flowering of all flora and fauna in this residential area; both above and below ground.
The Hydrorock Natural Aquifer SuDS System was selected due of its performance, sustainability and ecological qualities. Hydrorock provided the designers with total flexibility in configuration and versatility of installation.
